Central East Specialty Awards
CEZ has a longstanding tradition of presenting 5 special awards at the year end banquet. These awards are nominated by members of the CEZ community. Nominations will open at the end of the summer. Stay tuned for dates and links!
- Michelle Monkhouse Junior Sportsmanship Award: In honor and memory of Michelle Monkhouse, This award is presented to a junior equestrian that showed exceptional sportsmanship Amongst her teammates, competitors, and peers. This award is presented to a junior equestrian (under 18) on the CEZ that demonstrates true qualities of sportsmanship, including but not limited to, a positive attitude, giving their best efforts, supporting others, and helping others on the zone.
- Cassie Bonnar Junior Equestrian Of The Year: This award is presented to a junior equestrian who has made an outstanding contribution of time and effort to the equestrian sport, recreation, industry and/or equine welfare. The award is in memory of Cassie Bonnar who, despite a courageous battle with cancer to which she succumbed at a young age, Cassie exemplified the qualities of a great young humanitarian by always being willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
- Outstanding Contribution Award: This award recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Central East Circuit. Nominees may be a parent, exhibitor, trainer, volunteer, or any dedicated individual who goes out of their way to support the Central East Zone. Nominees should also display tireless dedication, unflagging good humor, a positive attitude, and good sportsmanship.
- The Clifford Haines Memorial Award for Outstanding Show Staff: In honor and memory of Clifford Haines, an extremely passionate, friendly, empathetic, hardworking show staff that was always a friendly face at every venue. Cliff Haines exemplified an outstanding show staff in every way. This award is presented to a show staff that goes above and beyond their expected job description – it recognizes a horse show staff person who always shows passion towards the circuit and goes out of their way to make our horse show day better.
- The Jayden Gray Senior Sportsmanship Award: This award is presented to an equestrian that demonstrates true qualities of sportsmanship, such as a positive attitude, always giving their best efforts and showing support for others. The winner of this award will exemplify fair play, strong and dedicated work ethics and unwavering care of others. Jayden Gray, a young woman who personified these qualities and more, unexpectedly passed away in 2022. Jayden is remembered by her peers and fellow Central East competitors as someone with a contagious smile, a dedicated, hard worker and a kind heart. In her honour, from 2023 and beyond the Senior Sportsmanship award will be renamed in memory of Jayden Gray.
